Doubt about the X internals, in special the extensions.

Hi all,

I don't understand yet what X exactly is. In a simplist way and in the
point of view of how X performs his work it is somthing like this: You
have an struct that describes the elements that appear in the screen and
then algorithms use these structs to draw it?

The X Extensions are new peaces of code that are plugged in X Server and
provide news and useful informations about these internals structs to be
util for programmers that need them?

I think that these questions are really stupid, but I need to know if my
understanding about all this is going in the right way.

Thanks,
Carlos.
