ATI Rage Pro crash

Hi.  I am experiencing a crash with an ATI Rage Pro
AGP 8MB card on Fedora Core 3 Linux (xorg 6.8.1).  It
is the standard Linux BSOD crash.  "noaccel" and/or
"nolinear" and/or commenting out the DRI section does
not work.

I have searched around and have not seen similar
experiences.  Are there any other xorg.conf options
that might help?  Any debug options to get more
relevant information printed out to the log file?

Might this issue be better in later versions of xorg. 
It is especially bad in tuxpaint
(www.newbreedsoftware.com), since it crashes on the
first painting stroke.
