Apples and oranges. As I hinted in the part of my post that you snipped,
Xglx on fglrx is at least as fast as Xati overall in normal desktop
compositing. I suspect Xglx just needs a lot of optimization, and maybe
the OpenGL drivers as well for the new workload.
