It doesn't mention colour tiling at all, so it seems unrelated to
Roland's change.

You are using CVS HEAD, right? Can you try if XORG-6_8-branch works?
Just cvs up and making clean all in the
programs/Xserver/hw/xfree86/drivers/ati directory might be enough to
verify that.
