i810 driver freezes my display

Hi! I just upgraded to modular X11R7.0 and i'm using the i810 driver 
(xf86-video-i810-X11R7.0-1.4.1.3) on my notebook. It has an Intel 855GM 
integrated graphic chip that worked great with X11R6.8.

But in the current release my x11 freezes when starting it with the i810 
driver (vesa works). you can see a screenshot here:

I get this picture after starting xorgcfg and my keyboard gets locked. 
(i can't switch to a virtual console).

Can anyone acknowledge this behavior? Are there any fixes?
