Hey Mike,

thanks for your reply, that makes clear that one can never have
everything at the same time :-). One of the things that I could dump
most easily is Xinerama, if the 4 screens can display "things" I can do
the rest in a client program without Xinerama, I don't know if that
would make things easier when it comes to selecting a card/chipset.

The next thing they (I say "they" cause this is really against my idea)
will suggest is to use a closed driver like the matrox HAL.

In case we end up making our own board, which will probably be 4 PCI VGA
chips on a PCI bus, how would X (or linux FB) like that ?
