X won't start; consumes all CPU

I just tried a Debian packaging of RC3, but it still doesn't work.
xorg doesn't seem to consume a lot of CPU now; it just dies without
any good diagnostics.

Does nv need the GLcore module loaded?  I notice my default
installation didn't have GLcore.
