I'd disagree with his description a little but in the US copyright on
fonts deals with the font not neccessarily use of the font - so a bitmap
containing the word "Hello" in monotype is not neccessarily a derivative
work. Including the font itself into the document is however. This
became a bit of a problem with .ps and a huge problemw with PDF. PDF
tries to deal with it by having comedy 1bit DRM to control font access
in applications that listen to the flag.
