Slow scrolling with Firefox -> maybe a XOrg problem?

Hi,
I am experiencing very slow scrolling with Mozilla/Firefox (both Mozilla and
Firefox, all recent versions) on specific web sites. My System is SuSE 9.2
with XOrg 6.8.1-15 and the nvidia driver "1.0-7174". My System is a Athlon XP
1600+.

I am not sure if this is an Xorg or Firefox/Mozilla/Gecko issue, but to my
mind XOrg is behaving strange.

On specific sites (also very simple ones, like this):

http://www.w3.org/TR/soap/

Scrolling is very, very slow. When scrolling and looking at "top", it shows
that the firefox binary is nearly idle but the process "X" is consuming the
whole CPU time.:

Tasks: 92 total, 2 running, 90 sleeping, 0 stopped, 0 zombie
Cpu(s): 92.4% us, 1.0% sy, 0.0% ni, 0.0% id, 0.0% wa, 1.0% hi, 5.6% si
Mem: 775684k total, 647640k used, 128044k free, 19676k buffers
Swap: 1052248k total, 73332k used, 978916k free, 216932k cached

PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND
 5815 root 25 0 619m 279m 332m R 95.6 36.9 12:55.04 X
 7132 dusty 15 0 75232 40m 42m S 2.3 5.3 0:10.70 firefox-bin

When shutting off the CSS-Stylesheet, the situation changes:

Tasks: 92 total, 1 running, 91 sleeping, 0 stopped, 0 zombie
Cpu(s): 86.0% us, 2.0% sy, 0.0% ni, 10.4% id, 0.0% wa, 1.3% hi, 0.3% si
Mem: 775684k total, 649228k used, 126456k free, 19968k buffers
Swap: 1052248k total, 73332k used, 978916k free, 216932k cached

PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND
 5815 root 16 0 619m 281m 332m S 59.4 37.1 13:11.20 X
 7132 dusty 16 0 75668 40m 42m S 23.2 5.3 0:13.86 firefox-bin

X is consuming far less of the CPU and the scrolling is very fast.

I tried many things like enabling/disabling Firefox smooth scrolling, dropping
all Firefox preferences and restarting it with it's default profile, using
Firefox without a windowmanager (just start X11 and Firefox, no Window
manager) and so on.

Do you have any clue?

Best Regards,
Hermann
