Render Accel with Radeons

Hi,

I've just downloaded and compiled X.org 6.8.1 (with GCC-3.4.1 if that's any
help). Anyway, I have a Radeon 7000 (VY) (i believe it falls under the rv100
category of ati chips). Now I have dri and everything working, but alpha
blending is not accelerated at all.

I've basically enabled composite and am using xcompmgr and transset to get my
windows to look translucent. I've enabled "Render Accel" in my devices section
but there doesn't seem to be significant improvement, while setting the same
option on an nvidia system (in the very next room !) really reduces
the render time.

I'd like to say here that normal open gl is working fine (with infact
significant improvement in the FPS rate in games from XFree86 4.4). I'm using
the radeon drm modules that are included in the linux kernel (version 2.6.8.1).

I'm not sure if this is a bug, an absent feature or a goof-up on my part in
the configuration. That's why I'm sending this mail. I'd be really grateful if
someone could help.

Thanks,

Ayan Chakrabarti

PS - If this is an absent feature, does that mean I've to wait till
2005 (the next proposed release date) to get this working on my
computer ?!
