Question for use in senior design project

Hi X.Org Developers,

I am a senior computer science engineering student at the University of
Michigan.  I have been following the xorg mailing list for a couple months now,
and have upgraded to the new release.  For our open-ended senior design project,
my group (3 people; we may add a 4th) wants to use the new X server extensions
to try to implement something similar to Mac OS X's Expose feature.  Is this
feasible with the R6.8.x series?  Based on what I've seen with xcompmgr, I
would think so.  Does anyone have any comments and/or suggestions on how to get
started with such a project?  I haven't had a lot of luck with the speed of the
Composite extension on my Radeon 9000 Pro.  We're open to using pretty much any
card for this project - is there one that will run the new feature set best, for
the purposes of a good demo?  Thanks a lot for any help you can provide.
