you are very wrong - Xmach64 is not only faster than xfbdev, it is
*significantly* faster.

Are you running devfs?  and if so, are you running devfsd?  under
devfs, your fb device is /dev/fb/0, iirc.  If you really, realyl, really
don't want to run devfsd, you could symlink that manually...
