Couldn't find anything more relevant that I'd kept in my mailbox (on a
temporary Evolution setup with no filtering), so I used this as the
context.

I've just put this morning's (European time) XORG-6_8-branch into hoary,
Ubuntu's development tree.  Hopefully it gets testing there -- at this
point, the only thing I can say is that it builds fine on powerpc and
amd64.  And hopefully on i386.

I mentioned about my holiday earlier, and the fact I'm not going to be
able to make it to France and that my phone was stolen today is pushing
me further towards taking a total break.  So, I might not be as active
as possible with pushing my bug list upstream, unfortunately; if I'm
sensible, I'll be on a beach near Barcelona somewhere.

To that end, watching my bug list[0] as Ubuntu users report bugs may
possibly be interesting in terms of regressions.  We're running with
this morning's XORG-6_8-branch, plus all of benh's ATI patches.

As for the shape the release will take, I think the single tarball trend
started with 6.8.1 must continue.  I would really like for it to be
available in both gz and bz2 formats (it's not an insignificant hit, in
terms of bandwidth), and also something with a slightly more sensible
name following today's conventions -- I suggest xorg-6.8.1.tar.gz and
xorg-6.8.1.tar.bz2.  Or xorg-x11-6.8.1.tar.gz, or whatever.  But
X11R6.8.1-src.tar.gz, or whatever we have presently, doesn't really fit
nicely, IMO.

And now I swap my distributor hat for my fd.o hat.

I've set up /srv/download.freedesktop.org on gabe, which will eventually
provide a sensible structure for mirrors; hopefully we can get it
mirrored.  To that end, the tarballs that would normally be provided in
~xorg/public_html, should be provided
in /srv/download.freedesktop.org/xorg, which will be available at
http://download.freedesktop.org/xorg/, and hopefully able to be mirrored
sensibly.  If you have any problems with it, send me an email with
[DOWNLOADFDO] leading the subject line, and I'll make sure I read it
ASAP.
