x.org and GTK+ 1.x progs

Hi,

I compile x.org cvs on my Suse 9.1 at home and get the error "gdk-ERROR: 
BadMatch ..." (I'm not at home so I could not be more accurate) when I run 
GTK+ 1.x applications such as xmms, vmware. They quit immediately after 
printing out the errors. Does anyone know how to fix this?
