[Xorg] why is Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" needed for my scrollmouse to work

Ah ha! Yes. My Intellimouse Explorer also has that configuration:

	Section "InputDevice"
	        Identifier      "Mouse0"
	        Driver          "mouse"
	        Option          "Protocol"              "ExplorerPS/2"
	        Option          "Device"                "/dev/input/mice"
	        Option          "Buttons"               "7"
	        Option          "ZAxisMapping"          "6 7"
	        Option          "Emulate3Buttons"       "Off"
	EndSection

This one is five buttons. Left, right, and middle click. Two buttons on the 
side for back, forward. And the wheel.
