Building tests failing for xts5

Hello,

I am trying to build the xts5 test on my minimal Gentoo.  The 'make' does 
not give errors, but no excutables are made.  There are Test.c and Test.o 
files, so I am guessing the link is not happening (?).  

What do I need besides the x.org libraries and dependencies I installed?:

[ebuild  N    ] media-libs/freetype-2.1.9-r1
[ebuild  N    ] x11-misc/ttmkfdir-3.0.9-r3
[ebuild  N    ] x11-base/opengl-update-2.2.1

[ebuild  N    ] x11-base/xorg-x11-6.8.2-r1
[ebuild  N    ] app-arch/rpm2targz-9.0-r2
[ebuild  N    ] sys-apps/utempter-0.5.5.5-r1
[ebuild  N    ] x11-terms/xterm-200-r3

plus flex.

I tried running the pre-built tests, but they do not run either.
