This is still broken in current CVS. I worked around it locally by using
"mkdir -p" instead. I found indication, that mkdir_p is only defined as
of automake 1.8. The modular developers guide still states automake 1.7
as minimum requirement. Should we bump that requirement to automake 1.8
or should we avoid the use of mkdir_p?
