Agreed. This being said, it might be possible to ask AMD to
dual-license their code or to independently perform the same changes
to the X driver, under a different license, which, as the authors,
remains within their perogative.

That's correct.

So far, everything seems to be under the MIT license, except for
autoconf files which include LGPL license headers. There's also two
files with unspecified license and I'm in the process of trying to
determine when they were created and by whom. If it was done by AMD
people, I will simply copy the MIT header from other files.
