It really depends on what Geode variant we're talking about.
Generally-speaking, recent Fodera, Red Hat and Ubuntu releases don't
support anything older than a Geode LX, due to their compilers
producing i686-optimized binaries by standard, which obviously won't
work on GX1/SC/GX2 hardware. Meanwhile, Debian should work on any
known Geode variant, at least as far as performing a basic
installation goes, since they ship binaries compiled with more generic
i486-optimized binaries.
However, the X driver is an entirely different issue. Basically, the
xf86-video-geode module supports the LX mostly well, however its GX2
support is rather shaky and constantly on the verge of no longer
working. Meanwhile, GX1 and SC support is entirely gone, because the
old xf86video-nsc module no longer builds on recent X server cores.
