I have tested against xserver 1.4.99.901 and report success.
Warren tested on a pre-pciaccess server and reports success.

So we are going to go ahead and bless David's patches.  HEAD
should be good.

We have some warnings that need fixing, and I'll commit those as
soon as I have tested them, and I'll look at the ongoing panel
problem too.
