Reading through the comments I tried searching for a "good area" to reset the cursor, and sure enough, the cursor got reset at some point of me scanning the desktop for a good spot. Not sure whether this is really a "good spot", or a combination of other factors that reset the cursor. My set up is: kernel: 4.4.0-36-generic #55~14.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Fri Aug 12 11:49:30 UTC 2016 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux Radeon driver: xserver-xorg-video-radeon 1:7.3.0-1ubuntu3.1 Video card: 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
