possible fix

I'm sure more testing is needed.. but the attached patch worked for me. 
Artifacts are now not on any screen in XBMC that I've tried yet.

I basically just took most of Alex's value's and halved them (which would be
1/4 the original).. and also changed insts and channel_caches.
