overheat

Hi, my name is Jacopo.
I wrote here because i've tried all possible things to resolve
overheating problem of my ati card in linux.
I have a laptop with radeon mobile 5600 hd and debian 6.
The fan is always on and temperature is very high, after 10 minutes my
laptop turn off automatically because overheating. There are some
tricks to avoid that? Slow down my card? I don't use graphical app and
it hangs also on text login after some time...
