I'm not using a git snapshot of anything. Problem occurs with version bundled
on the Ubuntu 12.04 live DVD and on the latest version in Ubuntu and the latest
version available in Fedora. 

The problem happens before you see the logon screen (or during) so there are no
desktop effects - at least with Ubuntu and LightDM, I'm not sure about Fedora
and GDM. 

Will try and fetch info, need to install SSH I think since I can't actually see
anything when the problem occurs. :P
