Yes, the lower part of the images were missing or black, while the upper part
was still intact. Maybe that is because I also applied other patches from the
mailing list, or because I did not stress it long enough so that the upper part
became corrupted too.

On my machine, the upper parts never got corrupted, only the lower half of the
icons was affected (see screenshots in bug 38022), and some background pixmaps.
