Nope. That makes no difference.

Checking more closely, doing a "sleep 5; xset dpms force off" just causes the
monitor to go black, turn itself off a few seconds later and then turn back on
again, returning to the original display. It's "sleep 5; xset dpms force
suspend" that triggers the endless "turn on, turn off, turn on again" cycle,
with the screen remaining black the entire time.
