After the kernel built after those commands still had the problem, I did a:
git bisect bad
and rebuilt the kernel, still seeing the problem until I arrived back at
commit 541cc966915b6756e54c20eebe60ae957afdb537.
When I did:
git revert 541cc966915b6756e54c20eebe60ae957afdb537
and rebuilt the kernel, I could successfully view the large JPEG file in
iceweasel, but the large JPEG would corrupt if another window overlapped
it, and refreshing resulted in a black rectangle where the image had
been shown.
I am building kernel 2.6.37-git4 and will try it soon.
Arthur.
