Summary: radeon 16-bit brokenness
Product: xorg
Version: 7.6
Platform: x86 (IA32)
OS/Version: Linux (All)
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: medium
Component: Driver/Radeon
AssignedTo: xorg-driver-ati at lists.x.org
ReportedBy: aelschuring at hotmail.com
QAContact: xorg-team at lists.x.org
from http://bugs.debian.org/613918 :
"current video-radeon driver in unstable [1:6.14.0-1] gave me a very blocky and
tiled login screen [...] Problems disappeared when I changed "DefaultDepth 16"
to 24."
to which KiBi replied: "you shouldn't be using depth 16, it's broken in various
ways, and kind of unsupported"
But man 4 radeon still advertises "Full support for 8-, 15-, 16- and 24-bit
pixel depths", and http://www.x.org/wiki/radeon does not list lacking <24-bit
support as a known issue.
Can anyone confirm the current state of 16-bit support, and bring the code and
documentation in line?
