Is the machine reachable over the network when this happens?  If so can
you get the kernel log at that point?

Also please try the 2.6.35 kernel (in experimental).  If you still have
issues there, please forward the bug upstream to bugs.freedesktop.org,
attaching your Xorg log and dmesg.
