BTW, this bug is fixed in the upstream release 6.13.2. Enabling the DRI
is still desirable for general performance though.

You should be able to get KMS working by disabling radeonfb, but
unfortunately it's not a full replacement yet at least on PPC laptops as
it doesn't support panel backlight control (hopefully fixed in the
mainline kernel soon) or suspend/resume (will probably take longer
still) yet.
