Been testing different mesa versions to see some kind of pattern:

7.7 branch (mesa_7_6_1_rc1-2602-g0e08054): Low fps
mesa_7_6_1_rc1-3851-g833acea: "just" no sync
7.8 branch (mesa_7_6_1_rc1-5911-gd2f2d0a): Flickering

More pinpointing will follow...
