Summary: KMS defaults to underscan, no way to permanently turn
                    it off
           Product: xorg
           Version: git
          Platform: All
               URL: http://www.phoronix.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26532
        OS/Version: Linux (All)
            Status: NEW
          Severity: major
          Priority: low
         Component: Driver/Radeon
        AssignedTo: xorg-driver-ati at lists.x.org
        ReportedBy: oyvinds at everdot.org
         QAContact: xorg-team at lists.x.org

KMS has defaulted to underscan for a while now, which is very annoying for most
of us who get a black square around the picture by default.

It is possible to turn this crap off with

xrandr --output HDMI-0 --set underscan off

but that's no permanent solution. Editing the kernel source is also no good
solution.

Please remove this underscan by default crap or make it possible to configure
it using a kernel command line/module setting. xorg.conf setting would be
better than nothing but still no good solution when not using X.

I know some developers insist on shooting themselves in the foot by forcing
this underscan shit on everybody. Forum posts by numerous people indicate that
most users hate this shit as much as I do. Thank you for reading all of this.
Have a nice christmas.
