I have been experiencing this issue on Gateway LT31 with opensuse.
Switched to gentoo (kde) with git head driver, but the issue remained.

I switched from kde to xfce and the issue seemed to go away (Makes it look like
a KWin problem) 


With the update to kde 4.5.4, I have tried KDE again, and this issue seems to
be gone for me on gentoo, using either classic or gallium driver.
