Your suggestion worked just handily, except that an additional call
$ xrandr --output LVDS --auto
was sometimes needed in order to get my laptop display resolution set properly.
I will be using this in the future---thanks!
Let me ask: what should be done with this information? It seems that users
should not have to manually turn off & on VGA/DVI at the command line. Is this
something that needs a bug fix in xrandr? (I would think xrandr --auto should
handle all of this automatically, though perhaps there are reasons that would
not be a good idea.)
Or is it more of an issue for, e.g., the KDE and Gnome configuration GUIs? In
my testing of different Maverick alpha CDs, neither of these desktop
environments handled this switch correctly. I am happy to report a bug
elsewhere if you can suggest the proper place to implement the fix.
