GPU lockups are generally the result of feeding the card some command sequence
it doesn't like.  So, the problem is mostly likely in the 2D or 3D accel code
in the ddx and mesa.  Different versions of those drivers may submit slightly
different sequences of commands one of which is enough to make the GPU unhappy.
