I am using:

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV620 LE [Radeon HD
3450]

and am still having these problems.

The patch mentioned above for R6xxx cards appears already to have been applied
to the kernel that is shipping with Ubuntu Lucid.

I just tried to copy the video bios, but I get:

carl at houllier:/sys/bus/pci/devices/0000:01:00.0$ sudo echo 1 > rom
bash: rom: Permission denied

Let me know if there's any other information I can provide.
