Ok, I lied, I'm still responding.

radeontool regset DAC_MACRO_CNTL 0x00000808
fixed my problem!  It might look a little on the blue side, but that also could
be just because I was so used to looking at it all washed out for so long that
my eyes are playing tricks on me.  HTML colors appear to be looking right, and
html lightgray is no longer displaying as white.
