Yeah, I wouldn't hold my breath for the XAA issue to be fixed.

The default acceleration method is determined by the driver. However, this is
tricky - the default was first changed from XAA to EXA for all cards, but then
back to XAA for cards such as yours with little video RAM, due to complaints
about bad performance with EXA. Hopefully that can be fixed once and for all at
some point with KMS, but in the meantime I'm afraid we just can't get the
default right for everybody.
