kde task bar tabs are meant to be gray, not blue.  often the inner part of the
application tab box is black, rather than dark gray as in this attachment. 
this corruption comes and goes as you refocus windows, sometimes back to normal
for some application tabs, sometimes not.  there is no trigger per se, it
occurs pretty quickly after startup with normal use.
