The patch works. I've tried the DPMS command too.

I think it is unrelated and I don't want to extend this bug report with another
request, but the first DPMS blanking failed on my LCD screen (it shown bright
coloured vertical stripes with big growing white spot in the middle). I've seen
this before too (not reproducible), but I don't know if it is problem of my LCD
screen or software.
