I compared the modelines from fglrx and radeon, it seems that radeon uses wrong
/ miscalculated (?) modelines, i attached a file where both modelines are
listed. After that i added the modelines from fglrx to the xorg.conf.
modeswitching using xrandr still produces the whitescreen, but after an
vt-switch and a switch back to X the correct resolution is displayed. Note that
i reverted the fix from alex as it only produced a flickering display. Also
attached is the xorg.log from the vt-switch in case it is useful.
