RADEONDRIGetVersion failed to open the DRM

Yesterday I tried booting from an Intrepid Live CD, and everything
worked fine (even with the default xorg.conf).  So I think I may end
up upgrading to Intrepid if that will solve the problem for me.

How can you tell that the radeon kernel module is not recognizing my card?
