Git version number

I think it would be a good idea to follow other projects such as Cairo
or pixman in always bumping the version number immediately before and
after a release, so Git snapshots can be immediately identified from the
version number. I'd suggest bumping to 6.10.0.99 now, but I don't really
care what scheme is used.
