I don't know if this is related, but to a non programmer, it sure seems to be
the same pattern as bug 16781, in which X fails when 2 outputs are running. 
The difference there is that one of the outputs happens to be the on board
LVDS.  According to 16781, the problem seems to be faulty code in atombios
causing an endless loop.
