Hi. Have encountered a similar problem. 
With the configurations i have attached one monitor does not have signal within
X. If i switch to console, then signal is back with clone screen.
KMS is disabled.

Running archlinux testing

kernel26 2.6.32.2-2
xf86-video-ati 6.12.4-3
ati-dri 7.7-1
mesa 7.7-1
xorg-server 1.7.3.902-1
