It seems the black screen bug might be a duplicate of bug 12626
(https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12626). Although the symptoms are
a bit different, as with that bug some switching between modes with xrandr can
produce a picture on the TV.

The original report of X crashing on specific modes when color tiling is
enabled is still valid though.
