Yes, but I had the same problems with xserver 1.4.x (as 1.5.x wasn't
released when this thread started).
Actually with the current configuration, starting up with the external
monitor plugged in will just hang X and the system (black screen).
If I unplug the monitor and restart the computer, it will start, then
I can log in and plug in the monitor.  Then it only goes to a max of
1024x768.
Restarting X with the monitor plugged in will allow me to get to the
correct resolution (after lots of random xrandr changes).  Once it is
at the correct res, videos are messed up (any player using xvideo
plays with corrupted purple flashing noise on the video).

Curse this video card and laptop :)
