I did some testing previously with just the first patch and it had no real
effect on HEAD. I'll try to do some more thorough testing tonight.

I am a bit puzzled why I am getting tearing when it waits for the start of the
vblank though. The only running application is mplayer, so there should be
extremely little sitting in the command queue for the GPU.
