Does switching work ok when option "XaaNoOffscreenPixmaps" is not used?  How
about when using exa?

So resolution switching works fine when you use xrandr?  What do you use to
switch resolutions that doesn't work?  If you are using kde's gui, it might not
be randr 1.2 compliant.  I don't think the randr 1.0 compatibility in the
server works too well in practice.
