I think you may have to toggle some gpio pins to switch the dac output between
the S-video port and the VGA port, but as you are still having problems even
with VGA connected at boot, I suspect the problem may be elsewhere. I'll have
to check the register specs and see if there are any strange quirks with
certain old IGP chips.
